The Chinese environmental standard for funeral homes and crematoriums: "Emission standard of air pollutants for crematory" (GB 13801-2015).

To implement the Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, the Air Pollution Prevention and Control Law of the People's Republic of China, the Opinions on Strengthening Key Environmental Protection Work, and other relevant laws and regulations, and to protect the environment, prevent pollution, and strengthen the control and management of atmospheric pollutant emissions from crematoriums, this standard has been formulated.

This standard specifies the emission limits, monitoring, and control requirements for atmospheric pollutants generated during the handling of remains and the burning of burial offerings within crematorium areas. The emission of malodorous pollutants and environmental noise from crematoriums shall comply with the corresponding national pollutant emission standards. The identification, treatment, and disposal of solid waste generated shall comply with national solid waste pollution control standards.

This standard serves as the basic requirement for the control of atmospheric pollutant emissions from crematoriums. Provincial-level people's governments may formulate local pollutant emission standards for items not covered by this standard, or stricter local standards for items already covered. If the environmental impact assessment documents or the emission permits require stricter control than this standard or local standards, the requirements of the approved environmental impact assessment documents or emission permits shall prevail.

This standard was formulated by the Science and Technology Standards Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

Issued on April 16, 2015, and implemented starting from July 1, 2015. Click "Read the Original" to be redirected to the official website of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to view the full text.
